How to Enjoy Being Single on Valentine's Day

The season of love is upon us! It’s the time of year where couples express their love to one another through gifts, words, and romance. This year I don’t have a special someone to share my love with, but who says I can’t partake in the celebration? If you find yourself in a season of singleness too, have no fear! I’ve come up with a few ways to enjoy and celebrate your singleness on Valentine’s Day!

Dress up. We all know that when you look better, you feel better. I’ve had my Valentine’s Day outfit planned for the past week and can’t wait to step out looking fly! Throw on your best dress or suit and work it!

Go out with friends. For the past few years, I’ve celebrated Valentine’s Day in some capacity with friends. Whether it’s dinner, movies, shopping, or just sharing laughs on the couch find some time to spend with those who love you the most. My closest friends are single and like me haven’t found anyone to mingle with quite yet, but we all made the decision to celebrate the day anyway. What better way to spend it then together? Thursday night you can find a party of 4 having dinner at a fabulous restaurant on the river!

Cook a bomb dinner. Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to try out one of the many recipes you have saved on your Pinterest boards. Bring out the fine china and pop open a bottle of wine (or sparkling juice) and enjoy a cozy night in.

Treat yourself. Get a haircut. Get that fill-in you’ve been pushing off for the past three weeks. Buy the shoes. Wear that shirt that’s been hanging in your closet with the tags still on it. Do whatever makes you happy. Treat yourself like the gift that you are!

Unplug from social media. If you’re newly single or have a hard time dealing with being alone, take the day away from social media. Social media timelines and feeds are going to be full of couples professing their love, engagements, V-Day gifts, etc. Remove anything that may distract you or put you in a funky mood. Take the time that would be spent mindlessly scrolling and do something fun for yourself.

Go on a mini vacay. Have the day off? Take a day trip to a nearby city and explore. Try out a different restaurant. Visit the shops. Take the time to be a tourist and fall in love with a new culture and environment.
